Nintendo sells four million notebooks in Japan

The Japanese company had to reduce the price of their new notebook to just over 150 Euros and offset the initial purchasers with 10 downloadable games, in order to improve sales.
The decision has begun to bear its fruit. Nintendo announced that they have exceeded sales of four million consoles in Japan, half a million of them being purchased in the week starting from December 19.
The success will help Monster Hunter, a game that has been made available locally. In addition to MH, Mario Kart and Mario 3D Land 7 have recorded good sales. Both games have surpassed one million cartridges.
The initial disappointment for the creators of Mario Bros. was made up by the price cut that has been the best stimulus the console giants would have hoped for. However, many shareholders continue to ask for opening the big games to other devices.
They believe that Mario, the almighty plumber’s addition for other devices will add much needed revenues to the company.
Following their release of Nintendo DS, the company has learned two valuable lessons: Without a broad portfolio and a reasonable price, success will be harder to achieve.
