Best and Worst Smartphones of 2011 – The Final Verdict – Part 4

1. Samsung Trender
There is no doubt in the fact that there is exists a market that prefers a messaging handset over a smartphone but Samsung’s attempt to hit both with the same bat did not pan out well. The Trender was supposed to address both mobile computing and messaging
at the same time but that compromised on a number of aspects.
The dimensions of the phone, for one, are quite unhealthy to compete in the market, where slim chassis are trending. The inclusion of a hard-keys full QWERTY keyboard compromised the thin structure of the phone. The touch screen was not responsive per se
and the Android did not run smooth on the low-specs hardware.
Moreover, Sprint’s 3G network worked at snail’s pace while browsing over the internet. Had it been a sole smartphone or a simple messaging handset, it would have captured a market but since it was sailing in two boats at once, it was destined to go down,
all hands aboard.
2. HP Veer
The next handset from Hewlett-Packard was supposed to save the drowning webOS. The company could have landed the Pre 3 to a US carrier but it obviously didn’t. The best idea HP could come up with was Veer, which is short on Software, webOS, and size, which
is small.
The smaller dimensions of the phone resulted in a smaller touch screen size, hence smaller icons, hence worst handling.
The camera is located at an absurd place and takes all blurry and smudged photos.
The only thing that this phone has in pros column is the handy size, which eventually spurs a lot of other problems mentioned above.
Furthermore, the AT&T network works sub-standard in terms of data transfer, which means the web browsing.
The Veer was not the kind of the strategy experts were expecting from HP in such desperate times. However, the phone was the last of its kind before webOS was pledged to open source community. Hopefully, free lance will get a the better view of the operating
system in the future.
