President Asif Ali Zardari, in his first public appearance since his return to Pakistan after an
illness, appeared to have an incoherent. His 33-minute long speech in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the fourth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto was meaningless to many things in that period of time.
He uttered fragmented sentences in his speech that were completely had out of context. It was a combination of words threaded to create a delusion of a meaning. Hitherto, it was not without an expertise.
The incoherent address comprising incomplete and meaningless sentences served many cautious objectives. He managed to fill air-time without hurling shots of his epic combat with the military establishment.
Those, who were expecting him to deliver lethal verbal blows to the military establishment recurring what Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had uttered a few days earlier, proven wrong. The president did not speak a single word about the army and ISI.
Smartly, the president has kept his cards in his conflict with the top brass out of sight. His rivals are guessing what will be his next move. He, however, did not leave judiciary particularly Chief Justice without hitting out.
The president fixed his guns on Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, accusing him of violating constitution and being partial in taking the cases before the apex court. It is start of the direct target, which will most likely to be launched by the PPP
in the coming days. They will try to disrespect the judge who is probing the role of Asif Ali Zardari in the secret memogate scandal.
The entire case will cast in divergence if the judge becomes controversial. The party will take advantage from that controversy, as it has a tremendous experience to show agitation on the roads.
Zardari’s speech served in another way what he showed before a large number of journalists and writers. He particularly invited Aitezaz Ahsan who spoke after the president to endorse the latter’s speech.
In the presence of media pundits, the president succeeded to boost the claims that all is well. In an astonishing way, Aitezaz Ahsan endorsed the president’s words.
The PPP did not have a better person that Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan to ask for additional authenticity. No one is able to guess why Aitezaz gratified the president so kindly, but Asif Ali Zardari fruitfully established an image that he will not go anyway.
Although it was a meaningless speech, it has not a bad score card.
