Amazon sells a million Kindle units in Christmas week
Friday, December 30th, 2011 5:27:05 by Awais KhanAmazon has managed to sell a million units of Kindle Fire in the week leading to Christmas. The tablet device was the most desired product during the holiday season, which also saw sales of electronic books skyrocket.
Despite the good sales figures reported by the U.S. e-Commerce giant, analysts were not convinced: it has been expected that the company shows a 40% further growth for the fourth quarter. Consequently, failure to meet their targets has resulted in the organization
being punished in the stock market.
Two weeks ago, the company has announced that sales of their family product will shoot through the roof. Their three products have occupied the top three best-seller slot on Amazon, though the company did not give any more details. Fire tablet Kindle, Kindle
Touch and the old model of its electronic book reader, made it to the list.
Despite the vagueness of the data, TechCrunch’s MG Siegler pointed out in his blog the range for total sales would be between 100.0000 and four million units.
Amazon began shipping their competitor to iPad from the start of November at a price of 146 Euros, much lower than Apple’s 199 Euros billion. Early reviews noted the product prices, but also the limitations of the device.
Still, the company has reiterated their stance that Kindle Fire is giving excellent results even outside of the U.S. market, especially Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, where the tablet went on sale earlier this month.
"We are very grateful to our customers for making it the best Christmas for Kindle," Amazon’s founder stated. He also thanked the best-selling authors of the e-books, including Darcie Chan and Chris Culver.
