KRL lift Pakistan Premier League title

Tariq Lutfi’s Khan Research Laboratories were crowned the champions of Pakistan after officially receiving the trophy at Jinnah Stadium yesterday.

The Rawalpindi outfit had all but secured their win, however they had to play a dead rubber match against arch-rivals, WAPDA, yesterday. The Watermen held the game to a goalless draw and ended their campaign with 52 points.

Ambassador, High Commission of Argentina Rodolfo J. Martin-Saravia, Senator Abdul Rahim Mandokhail and PFF Secretary Col (retd) Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi, were on hand to distribute the silverware to the ecstatic KRL side.

Led by the likes of Muhammad Essa, Muhammad Qasim and Samar Ishaq in their ranks, Tariq Lutfi’s side wept aside all opponents in their race for supremacy. Lutfi, who has been severely criticized during his stint with the Pakistan National Team, was overjoyed
with the occasion as he earned his first winners medal.

Speaking to reporters, the coach said that he was quite thrilled with the victory and revealed that his tactics had played a major hand, in landing the trophy.

“I am really happy that our team has won the league so convincingly.”

“I adopted a rotation policy and by doing so all the players were kept active throughout. Even key players like Samar Ishaq and Mohammad Qasim were rested for some matches. And it worked a lot as when a bunch of our key players joined the national team for
the SAFF Cup, the remaining lot realized their responsibility and performed splendidly to end the season in a style.”

KRL’s win has earned them a berth in the AFC President’s Cup and Lutfi insists that his side will be looking to put on a good showing in the tournament as well, provided that they are able to build the right team for the job.

“Now we will plan for the AFC President’s Cup. We need training tour for such an international event and our administration also realizes it. I hope they will provide us with all sort of support to build a strong team for the job,” the tactician was quoted
as saying.

Tariq Lutfi’s men will be looking to pick up where they left and hope that they can be the first team from Pakistan to go past the group stages of the prestigious Asian tournament.
