MQM moves National Assembly for South Punjab, Hazara provinces

As the next general election is approaching, everyone is trying to score points on the political front so why Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Karachi-based party sits behind in doing so. In the fresh move, the MQM Thursday submitted
a resolution in the National Assembly (NA) for making Hazara and South Punjab as separate provinces.

The resolution also recommended a referendum in South Punjab to determine if the people want one or two provinces.

The resolution was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat by members – Haider Abbas Rizvi, Abdul Qadir Khanzada, Khush Bakht Shuja, Iqbal Muhammad Ali, Farhat Muhammad Khan, S Iqbal Qadri, Abdul Waseem and others.

The resolution said that Hazara province should be consisted of Manshera, Abbottabad, Hari Pur, Kohistan, Battagram and Torghar districts.

The MQM proposed an amendment to the constitution for the formation of new provinces. The resolution further says, “The people of South Punjab and Hazara are struggling to have their own provinces and this is their basic right”.

The MQM believed that both the areas will be prosperous if they are made separate provinces. The resolution said that ignoring the wishes of the people and denying them their basic rights will be harmful for the federation.

The party also proposed a referendum in South Punjab to determine the desire of the locals whether they want one or two provinces.

The MQM is first to submit a resolution in parliament for the formation of new provinces in the country. Earlier, the resolutions were submitted in the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this regard.

Seconding the creation of new provinces, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain said his party extends full-fledged support to the rights of the oppressed of the entire country including those in the FATA.

Talking on phone to FATA’s MNA Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Altaf said his party will back up demand of province by the FATA people, if they want so.

The FATA leader Afridi told the Muttahida chief the FATA people want for them a separate province and a council so that they could make their decisions on their own.
