Despite constant pressure from United States of America, Pakistan is moving forward to take help from Iran in the on-going energy crisis in the country and the foreign office spokesperson, Abdul Basit has said both the countries are trying to complete the
gas pipeline project as soon as possible.
Since last five years, Pakistan has faced a massive energy crisis as the industries are closing down rapidly because of lack of electricity and gas. Iran has been offering its help to the neighboring country since long but Pakistan has been extremely hesitant
because of the influence of US on its foreign policy.
Pakistan has had close relations with the US since last 60 years but since last one decade, the situation has been quite different as Pakistan is one of the most important allies of the US in the so-called war against terror. However, the relations started
to take a U-turn in 2011 because of various incidents.
On the other side of the coin, US and Iran have not shared good terms since last three decades and some of the political analysts of the world are predicting a war between the two countries in near future as Iran is moving forward to become another nuclear
power of the world.
US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, during her visit to Pakistan in 2011, publicly raised concerned about Pak-Iran gas-pipeline project.
However, the foreign office spokesperson, Abdul Basit has made it clear that Pakistan has started to move faster to get Iran’s help in the gas crisis.
Basit said, “There is a desire to accelerate work on gas pipeline and we would try to complete it as soon as possible.”
While talking about the relations with America, Basit said that Pakistan wants to have good relations with all the countries. He further added that the future of Afghanistan must be decided by its inhabitants.
“Pakistan has always worked and will continue working towards promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a sovereign country and the reconciliation process should be Afghan-led and Afghan owned. We are on speaking terms with the U.S. and
are trying to put our relations back on track”, he added.
