Brett Ratner’s Tower Heist is a 2011 crime flick which is written by Ted Griffin and Jeff Nathanson and is based on a story by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Griffin.
When a group of loyal employees of a Columbus Circle high-rise finds themselves bankrupt after finding out they’ve fallen victims to a Ponzi scheme by a Wall Street businessman Arthur Shaw, played by Alan Alda. The loyal staff members include Josh (starred
by Ben Stiller), Charlie (Casey Affleck), Dev’reaux (Michael Pena) and Odessa. They seek help by a petty crook, Slide (starred by Eddie Murphy), and a bankrupt businessman, Mr. Fitzhugh (Mather Broderick) to plot the ultimate revenge. They break into Shah’s
apartment to steal back their money, along with sneaking past a special agent, Claire Denham (Tea Leoni).
The $85 million budgeted movie received generally favourable reviews.
Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes report that 68 percent of critics gave the movie a positive rating, based on 174 reviews, with an average rating of 6.2 out of 10. The site general consensus states, “Tower Heist is a true Brett Ratner joint: little brains
to this caper, but it’s fun fluff, exciting to watch, and showcases a welcome return to form for Eddie Murphy.”
Eric D. Snider of the Film.com gave the flick a B- rating and stated, “Made me laugh and held my interest more than it should have, given how sloppy it is. Call it an acceptable bit of B-minus work from a C student.”
Detroit News’ Tom Long gave it a B score and declared, “So what if it’s sheer petty escapist enjoyment? Tower Heist delivers the laughs in desperate times.”
However, Peter Rainer of the Christian Science Monitor gave the movie a C+ rating and stated, “Alan Alda plays the billionaire, and his oleaginous smarm is so good that you almost wish Alda were starring in a hard-edged movie about Madoff instead of this
goofy heist picture that takes way too long getting to the heist.”
Tower Heist is a good way to pass time with your friends you should watch it once atleast.
