Islamabad: (Friday, December 30, 2011) U.S. officials recognized the progress of 40 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province English-language students today at a ceremony at the National Library of Pakistan.
The Kohat District ?A level students are participants in a U.S.-funded English-language program, the English Access Micro-scholarship program. Through the Access program, the students participate in 400 hours of intensive afterschool
English-language classes and summer learning activities over a two-year period. The program coordinator, Ms. Bushra Uzma from the Kohat University of Sciences and Technology, as well as the program teachers, were also present for the occasion.
U.S. Embassy Director of Strategic Communications Thomas Miller told the students, “We are honored to meet you and are impressed with the progress you have made in learning English. The Access Program bridges the cultures of our countries, bolsters academic
and career prospects, and helps prepare students to participate in an increasingly globalized economy.”
Since its inception in 2004, over 70,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program. Pakistan boasts the largest program in the world with over 6,000 students in 16 locations across the nation.
