Car-racing sequel Fast Five tops pirated download charts

Car-racing sequel, Fast Five starring Vin Diesel, have dominated the illegal pirated download charts and have come out ahead of The Hangover Part II and Thor in 2011’s most pirated film
chart, according to filesharing blog Torrent Freak.

The latest instalment in the Fast and the Furious movie series, Fast Five, clinched the top spot in the most illegally downloaded movies list with 9.2m downloads. The Hangover II hit the
second place with 8.8m downloads. On the other hand, Thor, a movie based on the Marvel comics character that was directed by Kenneth Branagh, was downloaded 8.3m times.

Other downloads included Duncan Jones’s techno-thriller Source Code (7.9m downloads) and teen-orientated sci-fi flick I Am Number Four with 7.6m downloads.

The download results, when they were cross-referenced with this year’s global box-office top 10, showed that people prefer to watch 3D films at the cinema rather than downloading them
illegally. That is why; none of the 3D movies hit the top five places.

The movies that received low downloads have majority of 3D movies. These pictures were Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($1.3m), Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.1m), Pirates
of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03m), Kung Fu Panda 2 ($665.7m) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 ($653.7m).

The data collected by Torrent Freak was derived from thousands of BitTorrent trackers along with other sources.

9. The King’s Speech – 6.2m downloads (£268m)

10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – 6m downloads (£860m)
