Electricity loadshedding to persist in January, situation may get better in February: National Power Control Centre

Rawalpindi: (Saturday, December 31, 2011) Although Pakistan could never get rid of loadshedding since its inception, but it never witnessed such black-out either that we are experiencing nowadays in winter when electricity consumption
is minimal. When contacted to comment on the situation, the National Power Control Centre officials said that the situation was likely to remain gloomy until February.

NPCC Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Mohammad Kashif said that the power supply remains disrupted for continuous two to three hours because of two types of loadshedding at a time.

“First power supply is suspended under normal loadshedding, but due to extra load, forced loadshedding is followed soon after the scheduled power loadshedding,” he added. He also clarified that there is great shortfall of power in the country.

To overcome this problem and to save the power generation system, long hours of loadshedding is necessary, he said adding the loadshedding is going on in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, but entire country is hit by this problem. “If we do not save the power generation
plants, then the entire system would collapse and there would be a complete black out in the country,” he added.

“However, the NPCC is making all out efforts to improve and manage the generating plants structure, which would take one month to accomplish the task. The situation of electricity would improve in February, next year and we hope the people will cooperate with
us,” he added.

To a question, the NPCC official agreed that the situation of electricity would worsen once again in summer season due to additional load on power generating units. Meanwhile, excessive loadshedding continued in different parts of Rawalpindi even on Friday
including Kamalabad, Kalma Chowk, Harley Street, New Lalazar, Tulsa Chowk, Dheri Hassanabad, Tariqabad and Sabzazar.

Ehtesham ud Din from Tahli Morri said that the Iesco officials do not have regard and any respect for prayers and shut down power supply during Namaz timings particularly on Friday and ‘maghrib’ prayers.
