Lahore: (Saturday, December 31, 2011) Notwithstanding the damage caused by the Imran’s Khan’s slogan of change which has incurred huge political loss to all parties, especially PML-N, the erstwhile exiled led party has decided
to revamp it.
In an attempt to reorganize the setup, Zafar Iqbal Jhagra is likely to replace Sartaj Aziz as party’s central Secretary General. PML-N has decided to replace its central Secretary General Sartaj Aziz and Zafar Iqbal Jhagra is again
being considered a strong contender for the slot.
Incumbent Secretary General Sartaj Aziz was made the party’s Secretary General in July at a meeting in Islamabad along with Nawaz Sharif as President. Sartaj Aziz, who is vice chancellor in a private university, owned by Khursheed
Mahmood Kasuri, had conveyed to the party leadership that time that he would quit his job and take up the new assignment after completing ongoing semester. Sources stated Sartaj Aziz had assured the party leadership that he would take up the party assignment
on October 1. Nevertheless, he could not assume charge of his new office despite a lapse of three months.
Insiders claim that Sartaj Aziz is heavily engaged in his job and got a little time to focus on party affairs at a time when politics has reached its climax in Pakistan.
The sources claimed that PML-N leadership in a recent meeting had decided to replace Sartaj with a suitable political figure. They claimed that there were a number of contenders for the Secretary General slot and Khawaja Saad Rafique
was top of the list. Nevertheless, the party leadership has decided to nominate the new Secretary General from Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa as well from where earlier Sartaj Aziz was chosen. The sources said Zafar Iqbal Jhagra was being considered for this slot as
he had the experience of holding this office in the previous organizational setup of the party.
Moreover, the sources claimed that Zafar Iqbal Jhagra was not pleased with the decision of the party leadership regarding ignoring him and appointing Sartaj Aziz in his place. He is stated to have conveyed his displeasure with
the decision of party hierarchy within close circles. The sources claimed that the decision of replacing Sartaj with Jhagra would also be an attempt to reconcile with annoyed members and a part of efforts to overcome further erosion in the party. When contacted,
Sartaj Aziz confirmed that he was quitting his Secretary General office. He was of the view that he was too old to travel long distances, which was a basic requirement for this office. He stated that he had already been assigned a heavy task by the party as
he was heading the party think tank as well as was the chairman manifesto committee.
