Speedy Justice be ensured: LHC

Punjab: (Saturday, December 31, 2011) Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed yesterday warned the judges that they would have no future if they failed to deliver justice.

The LHC chief justice expressed these views while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony among district and session judges held at the Punjab Judicial Academy after a five-day capacity building training program.

Azmat Saeed stressed the need to dispose of cases as soon as possible but, he added, the decisions should be based on merit. The needy masses who have pinned their hopes on judiciary should not be disappointed, he said.

The strength of judges in the province was not sufficient as compared to the alarming number of cases pending adjudication, therefore the only way to cope with the situation was to have such type of training courses. “

There is no doubt that there are massive problems but they would have to fight with them,” he said and added that this was not an end but the start of their journey. The training should be result-oriented and they would have to work collectively for its improvement,
he said.

He said that district and session judges were the backbone of judiciary and it was their responsibility to make efforts to eliminate corruption.

Punjab Judicial Academy director general Justice Retired Tanveer Ahmed said that two years practice of civil judges should be ended and they should be given training in Punjab Judicial Academy after recruitment. Later, the chief justice Shaikh Azmat Saeed distributed
certificates among 20 district and sessions judges on completion of their capacity building training course. Justice Umar Ata Bindial, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Sh Ahmad Farooq, Justice (r) Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan, Ashtar Ausaf, prosecutor general among
others were also present.
