Modern technology and effects it inflicts on technologists – Part 1
Monday, January 2nd, 2012 1:09:42 by Usman KhalidThe technology market always has a neck-and-neck competition and due to the sporadically expanding internet into everybody’s reach, the web is waterlogged with articles, blogs, forums and social networks. However, only a few succeed and many take the negative
effect of whatever happens to them.
Recently a 22-year-old technology expert and co-founder of a social network called Diaspora, Ilya Zhitomirskiy committed suicide due to the failing stature of his company. The news spurred the concerns into the growing epidemic of mental and physical depression
among the techies.
Zhitomirskiy founded a start-up in the social networking that was expected to kill the hype of Facebook but due to lack of financials and immense competition in this industry, the young lad could not lead the small company up on the success ladder.
Moreover, a US newspaper published an article on the unsuccessful venture of Zhitomirskiy. Nobody knows whether it was the true reason for the suicide but his body was found in his San Francisco apartment five days later.
The truth is that nobody is ever sure of success in any venture, tech or non tech but the culture in the dotcom industry has sowed a seed that has taken the shape of bootstrapping. The culture promotes the thoughts that the tech product should be taken off
the ground by one’s own self.
The financials do not favour the start-ups either. Even the successful era of the technology and internet, investors are still hesitant in spending on a new dotcom project. This leads to techies to take the matters into their own hands.
