Most pirated movie in 2011 – AVATAR

The sci-fi film Avatar, director James Cameron, became the most pirated production of all time through the Internet platform BitTorrent, as published by the American magazine Entertainment Weekly. Avatar, who also holds the title of highest grossing film
in movie history, was illegally downloaded 21 million times, two million more than the latest instalment of Batman "The Dark Knight" and the first part of the saga "Transformers".

The fourth most pirated film on BitTorrent’s "Inception" with 18 million downloads. Avatar has cost nearly $ 237 million and this sum has become the most expensive film in history. However if it had been filmed in the year 1999 to make the necessary budget
should have been $ 400 million. Avatar has become the highest grossing film of all time to rise up to date you thousand $ 858 million and ended and the record set by Titanic (1997) twelve years ago. It is expected to exceed 2 billion dollars.

Two of the best grossing pictures of the year, Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland, didn’t appear in the top ten at all. But box office receipts and download popularity don’t go hand in hand, as TorrentFreak’s list clearly indicates. Granted, Avatar topped
the list and had a whopping box office draw of $2.8 billion. Second place finisher Kick-Ass, though, grossed only $96.2 million and the movie in the seven slot, Green Zone, made $94.9 million. By contrast, Salt, starring Angelina Jolie, finished 10th and grossed
$175.2 million.

Ironically, Avatar’s director Cameron has argued that more movies should be shot in 3D because it’s a good deterrent against piracy. It doesn’t seem to have been much of a deterrent, however, to the 16 million pirates who downloaded the movie from BitTorrent.
