Chinese President Hu Jintao asserts the West is influencing a cultural divide in China – Part 1

The Chinese leadership is taking every precaution to keep their political influence on the cultural norms in China but the growing inclination toward the Western style of living and conducting businesses is becoming one of the major concerns in the country.
Chinese president, Hu Jintao finally took the situation into his stride and published a ‘patriotic’ article on the first day of 2012. In the article, the president pressed on the growing influence of the West that has devoured the whole country in domestic
and professional circles. It is time to remind the public of true Chinese culture that has been the integrated part for centuries in the region’s history.
“International forces are trying to Westernize and divide us by using ideology and culture,” Hu wrote in an article in a Communist Party magazine. “We need to realize this and be alert to this danger.”
The main concern of the president was that major international forces especially from the Western hemisphere are still trying to manipulate the cultural norms in the country. It is time to promote our “socialism with Chinese characteristics,” he said in
the article.
The main reason for such an audacious commentary from the president was the growing concerns of the public on the policies of their leadership in the country. These patterns were prominent on the social Twitter-like websites, such as Sina Corp’s Weibo service.
This is one of the biggest websites in the world with millions of users availing the networking services every day.
After the drastic July train accident in China, that captured the media attention to lengths that the Chinese government had not anticipated, the public started to blame the leadership for substandard working in the government sector. The public’s views
on the situation raised some flags in the government and as a result officials from the Communist Party had to visit major internet companies to address the nation and show their real sentiments to them. However, the opprobrium could not be diverted.
