Chinese President Hu Jintao asserts the West is influencing a cultural divide in China – Part 2

As a result the government is taking major steps in screening the internet views and commentaries to see if there is anything that is against the government.

In addition, the president also said that the television is taking huge part in diversifying the already diversified community with ‘overly entertaining and vulgar’ reality shows. The government is taking steps and the regulatory authority for the media
like television and radio has been issued a statement to control the growing culture of vulgarity.

According to a statement, around 34 nationwide channels have been asked to restrict their reality shows to a mere two per week. This is the best step that the leadership could come up with in controlling the media. The limited entertainment, however, is
not going to solve the problem, according to some experts, it is going to aggravate the situation.

There has to be a balance of everything and given China’s strong lore to its centuries-old culture, this is very important that they do not become divided like Japan but limiting the entertainment is one of the steps that are against the freedom of speech.
And how much socialist China is, the freedom of speech has been one of their traits.

The president also assured that the officials in the administration will be taking a closer look at the internet activities. The regulatory authority responsible for this will promote the websites that instil positivity and will punish the one’s that help
spring chaos among the public.

Moreover, the president also assured that film, television and other media like photography will help in sustaining the cultural norms and will try to promote the lost values in the contemporary industrial and technological age.

In a world that has become a global village, the steps that the president is trying to take to retain the true Chinese values might become a hard task for the administration that is on the verge of handing over the power to the next generation.
