PTI warns of civil disobedience on hike in power tariffs and loadshedding

Peshawar: (Tuesday, January 03, 2012) Activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf yesterday, while protesting on power tariffs price hikes and unending gas and electricity loadshedding, warned of civil disobedience across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
and tribal areas.

In Peshawar, PTI Provincial Working Committee Chairman Asad Qaiser led his party workers gathered in Hashtnagri and marched up to Chowk Yadgar. The protesters held placards inscribed with slogans against the government for increasing
prices of gas, electricity and petroleum products.

Asad Qaiser asked the government to bring down the prices or else they would continue protesting. He said they would launch protest movement if the government did not reverse the decision. He said the people would force the rulers to quit due to its anti-masses
policies.

Asad Qaiser also led a rally in Nowshera where the PTI workers blocked the Grand Trunk Road for traffic for two hours. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with anti-government slogans, demanding decrease in power tariff and an end to the electricity
and gas loadshedding in the district.

The protesters said that Pesco and SNGPL were robbing the consumers of their hard-earned money while the government, instead of resolving their problems, had increased power tariff. They said the state institutions went bankrupt due to the negligence and corruption
at the top level.

Asad Qaiser said his party would launch countrywide protest if the government failed to resolve the energy issue. “We will announce civil disobedience if the government fails to resolve the issue,” he vowed.

Similarly in Karak, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf activists took out a rally against the frequent increase in the prices of petroleum products and demanded the rulers to step down. The rally led by PTI district president Altaf Qadir Khattak started from the party
office and culminated at the Saddam Chowk.

In Mangora, the residents of various villages and localities staged protest against hours-long gas and electricity outages in Swat valley. The protesters said the 18-hour long power outages had forced them to close their shops, as they could not pay electricity
bills due to the closure of businesses.

PTI workers in Lakki Marwat, Shangla, Bannu, Kohat and Kohistan also took to the streets against the price hike.
