Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher’s No Strings Attached, is a 2011 romantic comedy flick which was released on January 21st, 2011. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on May 10th, 2011 along with extra features and deleted scenes.
The movie centres on Emma and Adam who try to keep their relationship strictly physical but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more. It is directed by Iven Reitman and produced by Jeffrey Clifford and Joe Medjuck.
Kevin Kline, Lake Bell, Olivia Thirlby and Cary Elwes also features in this $25 million budgeted movie. The movie was originally titled Friends with Benefits but the title was changed to avoid confusion with a different film that opened on July 22nd,
2011.
The film received mixed reviews with the Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 49 percent based on reviews from 161 critics and reports a rating of 5.3 out of 10. The site reported that critics described
No Strings Attached as having "moments of warmth and sweetness that are spoiled by a predictable narrative and a dirty mind." It said, "The pundits say Portman and Kutcher keep things genial and easygoing, but they’re let down by a middling script
that shoehorns in a little too much raunchy material."
David Edelstein described the movie by saying "a supposedly feminist veneer… (that) never makes the case for Emma’s point of view. It’s almost a feminist backlash movie, and it didn’t have to be. There are plenty of reasons for brilliant young women, especially
with the stress of a medical career, to approach time- and emotion-consuming relationships warily."
No Strings Attached grossed $70,662,220 from the United States and bagged $77,118,220 from the rest of the world. In its opening weekend, the movie opened to number one in the box office, and earned $19,652,921 from 3,018 theatres.
The soundtrack includes songs such as ‘Bossa Nova Baby’ (from 1963), the 2010 European-charting ‘Bang Bang Bang’, the 2010 Australian-charting ‘Love Lost’, and a cover version of ’99 Problems.’
The 108 minutes film is not the one you would want to see over and over again. You should rent out the DVD in order to pass time with your friends.
