Cowboys and Aliens – an average science fiction flick

A 2011 science fiction flick, Cowboys and aliens, was released on July, 2011 and grossed $174,822,325 at the box office. It is directed by Jon Favreau and based on 2006 graphic novel of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Harrison Ford, Daniel
Craig and Olivia Wilde are featuring in this flick.

The $163 million budgeted movie is set in 1873 when a spaceship arrives in Arizona to take over the earth, starting with the Wild West region. The film centres on amnesiac outlaw (Craig), a wealthy cattleman (Ford), and a mysterious traveller (Wilde) who
must join their forces to rescue a group of people abducted by aliens.

The project began development in 1997, when Universal Pictures and DreamWorks bought film rights to a concept pitched by Rosenberg which he described as a graphic novel in development. After the novel was published in 2006, development on the film was begun
again and Favreau signed in as director in September 2009. Filming began in June 2010 in New Mexico and California. The film’s aliens were designed to be "cool and captivating", with some details, such as a fungus that grows on their wounds, created to depict
the creatures as frontiersmen facing adversity in an unfamiliar place.

Regardless of grossing its budget back, ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ was considered as financial disappointment. In addition to this, it received mixed reviews from critics. Review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes report that 44 percent of 227 critics gave it positive
reviews, with an average rating of 5.6 out of 10. Site’s general consensus declared, “Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford are as dependably appealing as ever, but they’re let down by director Jon Favreau’s inability to smooth Cowboys & Aliens’ jarring tonal shifts.”

New York Magazine’s David Edelstein stated, “Cowboys & Aliens is an agreeable time-killer, but I’ll bet a couple of clever kids could make a livelier movie with a Woody puppet and a Predator doll.”

‘Cowboys and Aliens’ is a good movie to kill time with your friends but you should rent it instead of buying.
