Hussain Haqqani, who was the Pakistani ambassador to the United States of America, has recently publically stated that his life is in danger because of the memo scandal that is one of the key political issues rocking the country these days.
Haqqani made the following comments regarding the matter while he was talking to a British newspaper: "My good friend
Salman Taseer was killed by a security guard because he heard in the media that the governor had blasphemed. I’m being called a traitor and an American lackey in the media with the clear encouragement of certain powerful quarters even though i’ve not been
charged legally with anything."
The views Haqqani shared with the British newspaper leave little doubt that the former Pakistani ambassador to the US is pointing towards the ISI as a possible threat to his life.
Hussain Huaqqani came into the lime light after Mansoor Ijaz, the Pakistani businessman based in America, came forward with the allegation that he had passed on a memo to Admiral Mike Mullen, US chiefs of staff, at the orders of Haqqani. The contents of
the memo that was allegedly passed on by Ijaz to the American Admiral contained contents that asked the Americans to control the military of Pakistan so that they may not have influence over the political environment of the country. Not only that, Ijaz also
stated that the contents of the memo made it clear that the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari had given the orders to the former Pakistani ambassador to the US regarding the control of the Pakistani military by the Americans.
In response to the coming of the news in the public eye, the Supreme Court of Pakistan called in a three member judicial commission that was tasked with the responsibility of looking into the matter of the memo and investigate the truth of it.
The memo case that is currently under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court of Pakistan can lead to huge consequences as it also implicates the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari along with his long time aide, Hussain Haqqani.
