It seems that we are going through an election season, as the numbers of political and agitational gatherings and rallies are increasing day-by-day. Those on the political empyrean commenced their election campaigns prior to the exact time.
Following in footsteps of Imran Khan’s PTI, many political parties started to organize demonstrations, gatherings, rallies, public meetings and seminars across the country. Karachi, the provincial metropolis of Sindh, is centre of gravity of many political
groups.
In the coming few days, many parties including religious alliances, PML-N, MQM and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) will held various rallies to showcase their worth. After performing powerful show in January, Jamaat-i-Islami will hold another rally in
Karachi, where PTI demonstrated its power on December 25, 2011.
The JI, which is one of the strongest organized groups, will commence its election campaign in the near future. Countering Imran Khan and showing its worth in Punjab, the PML-N captured a large gathering in Gujranwala rally. Nawaz Sharif, the chief of his
own faction of PML spoke about change and elimination of corruption, the claims similar to Imran Khan.
When everyone is playing with words then how can our Prime Minister stay outside the field? He accused the opposition for becoming a third force. A few of days back, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani spoke about the state within state and withdrew in the very next
week calling army chief a pro-democracy general.
On the other side, the extreme right wing has also been activated, making an alliance of many fronts under the banner of Pakistan Defense Council (PDC). Hafiz Saeed, leader of the Jamaatud Dawa, is heading the council that is understandable by many.
They exhibited an enormous power show in Lahore, Minare-e-Pakistan, indicating the entry of JuD leader into the national politics. The other possibility could be a show to form an alliance on lines of MMA and IJI, ahead of next general elections.
At the same time, former dictatorial president Pervez Musharraf is also attempting to collect his eggs across the country.
Meanwhile, the masses, the most depressive element of the society take to the street against the unavailability of gas and electricity. This will be further increased with the intensity of weather in the region.
Apart from tall claims made by the politicians in the rallies, it is time to demonstrate, as dysfunction and rhetoric will not work anymore.
There are many options with the government to control the situation, ranging from emergency economic and fiscal steps to serious and instant cuts on extravagant expenditures and better good governance. It will face devastating consequences if not taken steps
properly.
