HP Envy 15 hits the market after weeks of delay – Part 2
Friday, January 6th, 2012 3:52:49 by Usman KhalidThe Envy comes with a Blu-Ray Super Drive that is nestled into the cradle in a Macbook-like style—without any tray. The disc goes inside the chassis like in a car audio system. This feature gives room for a more uniform shape and coherent design. There are
two USB 3.0 ports on right edge and one on the other side. Along with the USBs, there is an HDMI port. SD card reader, Bluetooth and WiFi come as standard features in HP products.
The mouse pad has been revamped and is an improvement to its predecessors. The new track-pad lacks physical buttons but the bottom side is programmed to work as right and left mouse button on appropriate places. Multi-touch gestures have been improved but
they are passable at best as compared to benchmarking technology used in the Macbook line.
One of the mesmerizing features of the new HP line of laptops is its audio system, thanks to the long-term partnership with Beats Audio, the makers of Beats headsets. The Envy has a designated button for Beats Audio sound card settings. If pressed, the button
will launch settings to fiddle with equalizer and other features. In addition, the Beats Audio button is also a volume adjusting knob. A designated volume leveller is very scarce in the current line of laptops, much less in high-end products. However, it is
a welcome feature as the Fn+F-something key procedure is quite a hassle.
The screen is 15.6-inch with full HD dimensions and can be upgraded to 1920×1080 pixels. The base model comes with 6 GB of RAM and 500 GB of hard drive. However, the machine can be upgraded up to a Core i7 processor with 8 GB memory and an SSD. The Envy
starts at $1,099 and goes up to $1258 with different specifications.
