Andrew Santon’s Wall-E topped the box office on its release in June 2008 and broke many records.
The 98 minutes movie is set in a distant but not so real future, where a small waste collecting robot, Wall-E, accidently embarks a journey to space. His journey ultimately decides the fate of mankind. The film is produced by Jim Morris and featuring in
it are the voices of Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin and Fred Willard.
The movie opened to number one spot at the box office and earned $63,087,526 in its opening weekend. It was featured at 3,992 theatres with average earnings of $15,803. Wanted landed on number two with earnings of $51.1 million while Get Smart came on the
third place, pocketing $20 million.
The Disney/Pixar animated ‘Wall-E’ grossed a total of $223,808,164 from the US market and bagged $297,503,696 from the rest of the world.
The “WALL-E” debut was the fourth-biggest ever for Pixar, compared to a $70.5 million take for 2004’s “The Incredibles,” the $70.3 million opening for 2003’s “Finding Nemo” and a $62.6 million debut for 2001’s “Monsters, Inc.”
Countries where it grossed over $10 million are the following: Japan ($44,005,222), UK, Ireland and Malta ($41,215,600), France and the Maghreb region ($27,984,103), Germany ($24,130,400), Mexico ($17,679,805), Spain ($14,973,097), Australia ($14,165,390),
Italy ($12,210,993) and Russia and the CIS ($11,694,482).
The movie received overwhelming positive review among top critics and scored 96 percent of the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Joshua Starnes of the Comingsoon.net gave it a score of 9 out of 10 and stated, “It’s not often that you find ‘post-apocalyptic’ and ‘delightful’ going together in the same sentence, but they’re essential to describe the deceptively artful Wall-E.”
New Republic’s top critic, Christopher Orr declared, “It is a story about love and loneliness, perseverance and triumph, the possibilities and pitfalls of human existence. That this story is told by way of the exploits of a tiny, faceless robot only makes
it more extraordinary.”
Wall-E is a must watch movie for all genre and you’d love to watch it over and over again.
