RIM drops prices on all packages of PlayBook amid rumours of board shakeup
Saturday, January 7th, 2012 11:05:45 by Zeeshan GoharBlackberry makers, Research In Motion (RIM), have slashed the price of the PlayBook, a technology that rivals iPad, to just $299 in the United States. The new slashed price will be the
same for all three PlayBook models, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, on the BlackBerry online store.
Before the cut in the prices, there were rumours about the company-sale shake up in the market due to a massive increase in the sales of Apple’s iPad. The company saw a huge fall in their
Blackberry and PlayBook sales in the past quarter and there were threats that this will continue to drop more in the first quarter of 2012.
May be that’s why RIM decided to take necessary measures, so they came up with the decision to cut the prices on all of the PlayBook models. The recent offer of discounted prices means
that the 64GB model will be sold on less than the half price as compared to the original price, $699.
The joint chairman of the company, Mike Laziridis, backed the device despite and said, “We believe the PlayBook, which will be further enhanced with the upcoming PlayBook OS 2.0 software,
is a compelling tablet for consumers that also offers unique security and manageability features for the enterprise.”
However, PlayBook prices in Britain have not been changed. They are still standing at £249, £329 and £409 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models respectively.
The new feature in the PlayBook, a new software that allows the PlayBook to receive email without a link to a BlackBerry smartphone, has also been delayed until February due to some certain
reasons.
