Leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has reiterated that memo-gate controversy is a serious matter and the whole nation must get to know the findings of the commission formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The whole controversy arose last year when an American citizen, Mansoor Ijaz wrote an article for financial times and claimed that he had delivered a memorandum to General James Jones, who was supposed to forward that to Admiral Mike Mullen. There were a
number of clauses in that memorandum which were against the sovereignty of Pakistan and Mansoor claimed that the then Ambassador to US of Pakistan, Hussain Haqqani wrote that memo.
Nawaz took the case to Supreme Court last year and does not want the government to put this issue under the carpet. While talking to the media after a hearing at Supreme Court, he said that the mind behind this conspiracy must be exposed.
"It is a grave matter and someone has hatched a conspiracy. They should be exposed. The secret memo was a conspiracy against the country’s sovereignty, vital interests and vital assets," said Nawaz.
On the other side of the coin, the ruling party of the country, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has raised many questions about the court and the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has said that he would give more importance to the verdict of parliamentary
committee.
Nawaz commented on the statement of the President, "It shows the government’s defiance of the judiciary. It is an expression of no-confidence in the judiciary of Pakistan and the commission. That is why the government is facing problems",
On the controversial accounts of Asif Ali Zardari in the Swiss banks, Nawaz Sharif said that the government is playing with the emotions of the supporters of PPP and hiding their corruption. Leader of PML (N) emphasised that there should be complete accountability
across the board in order to eradicate corruption from the country.
“They should not link the Swiss cases to Benazir Bhutto’s grave. If this is his personal money then it is his will either to write a letter to the Swiss authorities or not, but if this money belongs to the public, then this should come back to Pakistan come
what may,” Nawaz added.
