New Provinces: ANP terms Gilani’s claims untrue

Senior ANP (Awami National Party) leader Senator has said the prime minister’s claim about having two-thirds majority for Seraiki province is baseless.

He was of the opinion that Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani played an in appropriate role on the issue of new provinces in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to him, the premier was playing regional politics and was destined to lose support for
the proposed province.

“His statement about having two-thirds majority for the Seraiki province is wrong as government does not have majority in any provincial or National Assembly, he asserted.

He warned the ally party in clear words saying, “If PPP supports Muttahdida’s bid for Hazara province, it will lose our support in the National Assembly and Senate for even Seraiki province.

Meanwhile, Rejecting the MQM’s demand for Hazara province, the ANP spokesperson stated that it was only paving way for creation of Jinnah Pur in the name of Seraiki and Hazara provinces.

“The MQM has nothing to do with Southern Punjab and Hazara and it wants to convert Karachi into Jinnah Pur,” Zahid Khan held. Citing the Constitution, he said no new province could be formed without approval of the provincial assembly concerned.

“The MQM should, first, move the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa first for its fresh demand but it has no representation in the said provinces,” Khan added.

The ANP leader reiterated the debate and resolution in the National Assembly on new provinces was against the constitution and the provincial autonomy.

“ANP will not allow anyone to violate provincial autonomy,” he vowed adding the MQM must have followed the constitution if it was sincere with the Hazara people.

He observed the political parties representing the people of Hazara could launch a movement in this regard and they could also move the provincial assembly in this regard. “Why only the MQM is ambitious,” he wondered.

Khan observed there were no feasible population and the area of the proposed unit such as Hazara with six districts. There are Pakhtuns in three districts of azarahaHazara who don’t want new province,” he claimed.

The ANP’s leader supporting Seraiki province, said the southern Punjab was feasible unit in terms of its population and area. The Seraiki belt had area proportionate to its 45 million people, he argued.
