The Devil Inside – A huge disappointment

The Devil Inside is a 2012 supernatural horror film which is directed by William Brent Bell. The 87 minutes film which was released on January 6^th, 2012 received poor and negative reviews from all critics.

The $1 million budgeted movie centres on a woman (starred by Fernanda Andrade) who becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcism during her mission to discover what happened to her mother. Her mother killed three people as a result of being possessed
by a demon.

Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth and Suzan Crowley will also be featuring in this cheap horror. The film is distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced by Mathew Peterman and Morris Paulson.

The film was shot in 2010 in several different locations, including Rome, Bucharest and Vatican City. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schnieder brought the movie to Paramount Pictures’ low-budgeted branch, Paramount Insurge.

The movie received poor ratings and negative reviews. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes report 7 percent of 44 critics gave the movie positive reviews, with an average rating of 2.4 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “The Devil Inside is a cheap,
choppy unscary mess, featuring one of the worst endings in recent memory.”

Washington Post’s top critic, Mark Jenkins, gave it a score of one out of four and declared, “You can see where this is going, and the filmmakers can see that you can see. So they rush to the hideous yet hilarious climax in little more than an hour and then
pad the running time with the slowest-moving credits ever.”

However, Jennie Punter of the Globe and Mail was kinder to the film. She gave it a score of two out of four and said, “While it doesn’t exactly reinvent the inverted cross, The Devil Inside definitely puts a nifty indie spin on the demonic possession genre.”

Despite its negative reviews, the film grossed $35.5 million at the box office.

The Devil Inside is a way to kill time with your friends but it’s not the one you would like to see again.
