Tim Bresnan ruled out of Pakistan Test series

England’s all-rounder Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of the Test series against Pakistan, scheduled to start from Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The 26-year-old player had an elbow surgery in December last year, but was expected to recover in time for the series against the Men in Green. However, the doctors have advised him rest for at-least two or three weeks.

"Bresnan tried to bowl today, having had an injection and a good rest," Andrew Strauss, the England captain, said. "I think we were all expecting him to be absolutely fine. But it’s very painful – and given that, he’s probably not going to be able
to play for two or three weeks."

Despite that, Strauss will be expecting his side to perform well in the upcoming series. He does have a few concerns with the fitness of a some key players, but the team has a very good backup.

Bresnan was also confident that his side could do well even in his absence and wished them luck.

I’m obviously gutted not to have an opportunity to play in the Test series," Bresnan said, "but I knew that looking at my rehabilitation programme it was always going to be touch and go to get me ready for the series. I want to wish the squad all very
best and the priority for me now is to get myself ready for the one-day series in February."

On the other hand, Pakistan will be looking forward to take on the number one Test side in UAE.

Although the Green Shirts have been unable to play any games on home soil, they have enjoyed the conditions in UAE, where the pitches are slow and offer assistance to the spinners.

Other than that, Misbah-ul-Haq has been leading the side extremely well. He is yet to be beaten in any series as captain and will look to repeat his dominant run in all three formats of the game.

The 37-year-old has been criticised for being a touch negative on a few ocassions, but believes his tactics have helped Pakistan win matches consistently.
