Acer comes forward with its new line of ultrabooks – Part 1
Monday, January 9th, 2012 12:54:10 by Usman KhalidAcer took the Consumer Electronic Show 2012 edition into its stride on Sunday, even before the office commencement of the event. The company made some announcements in a press conference prior to the show and made public some of the products that would be put on display at the event.
Acer announced two ultrabooks in the press conference, the Timeline Ultra and Aspire S5. Although both of the notebooks have two distinctive features, they failed to capture the attention that would eventually help in increasing their market share.
Both of the books were catering to a market that already is too crowded and needs something out of the box for a denizen to shine out from others. However, due to the evolution of tablets, the overall market share of ultra-thin laptops has already taken a dip on the graph.
The Timeline Ultra was the first laptop that Acer produced out of the hat. The notebook boasts nothing prominent in specs or resolution or the dimensions other than the fact that a CD or DVD drive resides inside the chassis. This might be a little upgrade to the ultrabook but so far now there has been no super-thin notebook that could include an optical drive into the equation.
This missing link might be a selling point for the notebook when it hits the market at the end of the first quarter or in the start of the second quadrant of the calendar year, however, it will not be the one that would increase Acer’s market share in the nascent segment that was created by Apple and is still dominated by them.
However, the most important of fact of all was that despite the inclusion of an optical drive, the notebook seemed slim but the final verdict would come when it is on display at the show.
