Zaheer Khan upbeat despite India 2-0 down against Australia
Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 2:06:15 by Rana Nasir GhafoorIndia’s strike bowler, Zaheer Khan has said that his team is focussed and confident despite losing the first two Tests against Australia.
Team Blue’s tour Down Under kicked off with the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne. The expectations were quite high, but the Men in Blue performed far below to their weight.
They suffered an embarrassing 122-run defeat in the opening Test. India’s misery continued after the first Test, as the tourists tasted another humiliating loss at Sydney, losing the second Test by a heavy margin of an innings and 68 runs.
With 2-0 down in the four-match series, the next game at Perth will be India’s last chance to salvage some respect. The Aussies, on the other hand, are on song and determined to clinch a comprehensive 4-0 triumph in the series.
It will be an uphill task for the visiting side to bounce back, but Zaheer is positive about his team’s chances to do something special in the Perth Test, getting underway from January 13.
He added that despite losing the first two games, the guys are confident to roar back into the series and exhibit a fine show in the rest of the tour.
"We are focused and quietly confident. It’s not the first time we are in the tough situation. We are confident about doing well. Melbourne has been fantastic and we put pressure on the team. Sydney we thought there was a lot of difference between the first
day and the second day. Considering all that we have put in a good effort," Zaheer said.
Alongside India’s pathetic performance so far on the trip, Sachin Tendulkar’s elusive ton is a hot topic of discussion at the moment. When Zaheer was asked about the Master Blaster’s 100th ton in the international cricket, the 33-yeear-old shared
that the way the Little Master has been batting, his historic century is not very far away.
"We want Sachin to score big for India but we are not stressed about his 100th ton. But the way he is playing, his feet movement, the way he is playing his shots, it looks his 100th hundred is not far away," insisted the Maharashtra-born pacer who has bagged
283 wickets so far in his 81-Test-old career.
