Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took an immediate notice and ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Media is reporting that DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Doger has mentioned as around 7,000 students were in the hall with a capacity of only 4,000.
Initial findings have revealed that a group of girls rushed to take the autograph of Atif Aslam when he was leaving at the end of the concert while due to the rush; the college administration had asked the management not to open the main gate because students
would use the single exit and eventually that triggered panic among them.
A witness told the media,
“The girls, who were trying to approach Atif, started pushing each other and some security guards used batons to keep them away from the singer.”
A private TV source, conversely, reported that the mad rush was caused by rumours regarding a bomb in the hall.
Later, hospital sources told the media that two of the dead girls were identified as Maheen Naseem, 17, of Walton Road and Farah Nawaz of Canal View while other details of the incident are yet to come.
