More laptops to be distributed next year: Shahbaz

Lahore: (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, while addressing member provincial assembly from different districts here yesterday, said that young generation was the guarantee to a glorious future
for the nation, and the goal of attaining sustainable progress could only be met if youth were equipped with modern knowledge.

Revealing that 30,000 students were benefitting from the education fund set by the Punjab government, he said that loans worth 1 billion rupees were given to the skilled persons to ensure better and respectable livelihood opportunities
for them.

Stressing on the importance of modern technologies in education, the chief minister vowed to increase the number of laptops to be distributed among students.

Addressing the assembly members, Shahbaz said the project of setting up IT labs in more than 4,000 schools at a cost of Rs 5 billion had been completed transparently and in record period. Through this initiative, he said, now the
students were better capable of extracting information about latest inventions through labs.

Adding to his comments, the CM noted that a major proportion of the country’s population was comprised of youth, and the prevalent problem of unemployment among them could only be overcome by imparting various skills to them.

Taking on one of the gravest issues – rising unemployment, the CM said the government had also set up the skills Development Fund and distribution of interest-free loans of Rs 1 billion among the skilled persons had started.

Considering the Punjab Education Endowment Fund as a revolutionary step, Shahbaz said scholarships were being awarded to the students not only from Punjab, Azad Kashmir and other provinces as well.

He said Danish schools were set up to impart modern education to the most deserving students of the far-flung areas. He also mentioned of free of cost boarding facilities being provided to the students n those schools.
