Rawalpindi: (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) protesting for their rights and demanding of the government to enforce four point mechanism for promotion, the professors and lecturers in Rawalpindi continued to boycott the classes for
second consecutive day.
Amid the protest launched by the teaching community, studies of the students in both men and women’s colleges were affected. The present protest campaign has been initiated on request of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association,
Rawalpindi Division.
The demands forwarded by the professors and lecturers to the government include announcement of an improved service structure. Moreover, they also demanded for one-step upgradation of all professors and lecturers and to regularize
all the lecturers working on contract basis without any further delay.
Yesterday, after consensus on launching the protest, teachers at Government Post Graduate College, Satellite Town, Government College Asghar Mall, Gordon College, Hashmat Ali Islamia College, Post Graduate Women College, Muslim
Town, and in a number of other colleges, boycotted the classes.
Streamlining teachers’ protests to pressurize the government, President of the PPLA, Rawalpindi Division, Mohammad Ilyas Qureshi visited all the colleges for men and women and addressed the protesting professors and lecturers.
Addressing the protesting rallies by teachers, Ilyas Qureshi threatened that if demands of the professors and lectures were not met, they would continue with their protests and boycotting the classes.
The association president gave a deadline of January 13 to the Punjab government to accept their demands. On failure, professors and lecturers would adopt strict strategy including holding protest rallies along with the students.
Professors, lecturers and students would also approach the people to apprise them of the problems being faced by the teaching community.
