NRO: Mood of confrontation

Apparently, the crisis is upon the nation, as the incumbent government feels it is about to be booted out in advance.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court has drawn conclusions which are rife with highly serious implications for the government and the system.

Among the other things, the verdict concluded that the Prime Minister had violated the oath and can be held unfit to hold his office.

The Supreme Court has had enough of the federal government’s devilments. The court termed the government ultra vires of the law saying, “To restore the delicately posed constitutional balance in accord with the norms of constitutional democracy”.

The Supreme Court in its final ruling listed six options, referring to Chief Justice to form a larger bench to hear them on January 16, 2012.

Among the six options first was about initiating contempt of court proceedings against the prime minister and the secretary law for not implementing the NRO verdict.

In the second, the court said it can declare the chief executive ineligible from membership of parliament.

The court, under the third option, can form a commission to get the verdict implemented or can initiate contempt of court proceedings against the NAB chairman.

It also mentioned that it can take action against the president for violating the Constitution.

In the last option, the court stated that it could leave the case up to the judgment of people or their representatives in parliament to deal with the accused.

Clearly, the persistency not to follow the court’s orders has been coming directly from elite lot of the government.

The PPP, instead of following the court’s verdicts, has harmoniously taken on both the Supreme Court and the military establishment. It is taking a confrontational attitude at a time when its position in the public has considerably gone down.

The PPP is not agreeing to write a letter to open the cases in Switzerland. A policy of confrontation will strengthen its opponents’ views that the ruling party has decided to take the way that heads to martyrdom because it suits the PPP politically.
