How the Pakistan Premier League can really improve
Thursday, January 12th, 2012 4:08:41 by Shahrukh SohailThe PFF have seemingly put forward their plan to change the Pakistan Premier League by removing all departmental teams. While the idea is not that bad, further steps must be taken in order to achieve the Vision 2020 plan.
First of all, the introduction of proper playing surfaces is crucial to the game’s development in the country and unless the fields are grassy, level and are of International standards, it will be difficult for players to develop and match other countries.
If the facilities are improved, then the PFF should channel its energies into making the league more attractive. Sponsorship is a must and will be easy to achieve if companies realize how much the market is worth and that it remains untapped.
With teams getting sponsors, player salaries should rise and as the Federation are already planning to make it an all-club competition, supporters will be able to identify themselves with each club. As more and more fans start pouring in the Stadium, each
side can generate their own revenue and thus will be able to grow exponentially.
After achieving all of this, the PFF should try to broadcast the league live, so that advertisement revenue is generated and the masses can get their dose of the beautiful game in the region.
Lastly, the federation should try to set-up a U-18 youth league so that talented youngsters can easily get game time and hone their skills. By providing a subsidy on fielding a U-18 team, clubs will be tempted to gain the extra cash and will also promote
younger players.
If the PFF can achieve all these goals, the Pakistan Premier League will not only improve but will prosper.
