Islamabad: (Thursday, January 12, 2012) Mansoor Ijaz, the American citizen and the main witness in the memogate case, is unlikely to come to Pakistan amid certain uncertainties regarding getting arrested and charged with other
cases in the country.
Ijaz was supposed to submit a visa application with Pakistan’s UK office latest by today to produce himself before the apex court here, however, as revealed by the foreign office, for some inexplicable reasons, he did not do so.
Today, the High Commission in London also verified that any of its consulates in the UK had not received visa application from Mansoor Ijaz. Abdul Basit, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office, during the weekly press conference
here today said, “We have not received visa application by Mansoor Ijaz either the High Commission in London or any other consulate.”
Mansoor Ijaz is among the most important witnesses to the case and the commission constituted by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and headed by Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, Qazi Faez Issa will definitely
like to hear his stance on the case. Thus, if he does not make it to land in Pakistan, the court may go for holding a teleconference with him.
Earlier, during the proceedings of the commission on the case, Akram Shaikh, the Lawyer of Mansoor Ijaz had told that his client was not being issued visa for Pakistan. Upon this, the commission had directed the Pakistan embassies
in Switzerland and United Kingdom to issue multiple visa to Mansoor upon receiving his passport and application.
Upon the news that Mansoor might not be able to come to Pakistan, Hussain Haqqani’s lawyer has claimed that the ‘so called witness to the case’ was a liar and will never come to Pakistan. While Mr. Zahid Bukhar – Nawaz Sharif’s
lawyer in the case has said Mansoor’s arrival was not important and the commission can still proceed on the evidences available about the case.
