It has been recently revealed by a spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan that the President Asif Ali Zardari will be coming back to the country on Friday.
The President of Pakistan had left the country for Dubai for a reportedly private visit as the tensions between the military of the country and the government of Pakistan ruled by the Pakistan People’s Party grew.
The statement given by Abdul Basit today in this regard is as follows: “President Zardari has arrived in Dubai on a private visit and will return tomorrow.”
Apart from that, there have been other statements given by the officials of the government assuring the public that the President of Pakistan did not make the visit to Dubai in relation with the crisis that is engulfing the country. Despite the assurances
of the government of Pakistan, the departure of Asif Ali Zardari from Pakistan has given rise to the rumours that the military of the country may be planning a coup to overthrow the present government of Pakistan.
The current turmoil in the country is a result of a memo gate scandal that is currently under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The case came to light as a Pakistani businessman based in America claimed that he had been asked by the former Pakistani
ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani, to deliver a memo asking the US to rein in the military of the country. The memo indicates that the instructions were given to Haqqani by the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
Since that time, the divide between the military of the country and the civilian government has been increasing and it seems that the situation is reaching a non negotiable turn.
In light of the current political situation prevailing in the country, the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani, called in a meeting of his highest ranking officers the night before. However, no comment is being released concerning the agenda of the
meeting that took place.
Despite that fact, the generals of the country have specifically warned of ”grievous consequences for the country” in times to come.
