Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani believes that he does not need to take vote of confidence from the National Assembly.
He expressed that whoever wants to start a no confidence vote motion against him in the National Assembly are free to do so.
While addressing to a National Assembly’s session, Prime Minister asserted that everyone should adhere to the constitution and those who want an early general election should start suggesting amendments for the constitution of Pakistan. He also said that
the government is not opposing any institution.
“We have not come here to seek martyrdom, nor are we seeking support on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO),” Gilani added.
While addressing to the opposition parties, Prime Minister said, “The opposition should tell us if the NRO was made by our government.”
“If a new stage is set up, it would neither welcome the current government, nor the existing opposition,” he added.
The prime Minister addressed the judiciary by saying that, “We went to prisons for the judges…faced treason cases for standing up for Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.”
On the other side, President of the Awami National Party (ANP), Asfandyar Wali Khan proposed a motion in goodwill of the government, democracy and the Parliament, on which the House will vote on Monday, January 16.
While interpreting the points of resolution, Asfandyar Wali stressed that the Parliament House believes in the ascendancy of democratic system and Parliament. “The political leadership’s efforts to safeguard democracy,” he added.
He further stated that the all institutions should act within their constitutional limits and emphasised that, respect for the institutions is also mandatory for a well-balanced democratic system. After that, the National Assembly’s session was adjourned
until Monday.
Moreover, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has also raised its voice in favour of democracy.
The decision was expressed by MQM leader, Haider Abbas, who told media officials outside the parliament that MQM will act “in favour of democracy”.
He also advised the government to stay away from conflicts. He said that the country is going through a very decisive stage and it cannot afford conflicts between the institutions.
