Lahore: (Saturday, January 14, 2012) A prominent leader of the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of judges and one of the PPP’s central leaders, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has reiterated his stance on writing letter to Swiss Authorities,
albeit, he maintained that the President had full immunity of getting trialed over the charges under Article 248 of the Constitution.
Commenting on the recent verdict given by 5-member bench of the Supreme Court on NRO case, Aitzaz said that all six options given by the judges were the advices for the larger bench of the apex court, and not for the government.
Confirming that he had submitted an application to the PPP authorities for Senate seat, he said the movements for the impeachment of President or Prime Minister were constitutional. However, he also maintained that the democracy
was safe unless toppled by unconstitutional means.
Commenting on the news regarding him playing a mediator role between executive and judiciary, or between Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Aitzaz said neither he was given with any such responsibility nor
was he ready to become a mediator.
Responding to a question regarding the recent sacking of Secretary Defence Khalid Naeem Lodhi by the Prime Minister, he said that the former secretary could challenge his termination in the court.
