Should Zeeshan Rehman have signed for Kitchee SC?
Saturday, January 14th, 2012 3:45:22 by Shahrukh SohailPakistan International Zeeshan Rehman has penned a one and a half year deal with Kitchee SC but Newspakistan analyzes whether if it was a wise decision by the defender.
The 28-year-old is hailed as a hero for many, as he is the only Pakistani to have played in the English Premier League. During his stint with Fulham, he tackled many of the game’s best but since his departure from Craven Cottage hasn’t settled in one place
for long.
He also became the skipper of Bradford City but was soon sold by the club after a disciplinary charge. Rehman then decided to try his luck in Thailand and signed for Muang Thong United.
However he only spent a year at the helm and has now chosen to sign for Kitchee SC of Hong Kong. Speaking to reporters, he said that he would relish the challenge of proving himself in his surroundings and admitted that he was a fan of the club’s playing
style.
“I am looking forward to getting started and taking up this new challenge. Kitchee play a very good style of football and put in decent performance against both Chelsea and Blackburn last year.”
The former QPR man also revealed that he had offers from Europe but he turned them down in favour of Kitchee.
However according to this writer, Rehman should have chosen to ply his trade in Europe, which would after all be best for his career. The game would be of a much higher standard and there is always the chance of making it in the UEFA Europa League.
Rehman should be able to make a decent impact at his new side but it remains to be seen whether Kitchee SC actually improves on the pitch with his arrival.
