Sukkur: (Monday, January 16, 2012) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan said the government’s representatives had no understanding of constitution and that the constitution was above the parliament. He said in case the
government decides to take on the apex court, the nation will stand besides the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Deliberating on the current political flux in the country, the PTI chief said the government had refused to comply with the Supreme Court orders only to protect Asif Ali Zardari’s corruption. He said, “The whole nation is with
the SC. The constitution, not parliament, is sovereign and no one will accept martial law.”
“The government should have resigned after the Supreme Court declared the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) illegal” Khan added.
Talking about the PML-N, Imran said the party was afraid to go to the public. He suggested the N league to show some seriousness towards country’s changing politics, and if they were serious in their claims, they must have resigned
from National and Provincial Assemblies.
Responding to a question regarding possible political alliances in the general elections, Khan said right now his party’s priority was to defend the apex court.
With regard to a possible alliance with Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Imran said that the PTI could not make an alliance with the former dictator’s party.
