Hoodwinked Too – Failed to live its hype
Mike Disa’s Hoodwinked Too is a 2011 computer-animated family flick and the sequel to 2005’s Hoodwinked! The $30 million budgeted movie is produced by Maurice Kanbar and written by Cory and Todd Edwards. Featuring in the movie are the voices of Hayden Panettiere,
Glen Close, Bill Hader, Tommy Chong, Amy Poehler and Patrick Warburton.
The 87 minutes film centres on Red (Penettiere) who is in training with a mysterious group called the Sisters of the Hood, must team with Wolf (Warburton) to rescue Hansel and Gretel (Hayden and Poehler) and Granny (Close) from the evil witch, Verushka (Joan
Cusak).
The movie received mostly unfavourable reviews and poor ratings. IMDB gave it a score of 4.6 out of 10 based on its 2,786 users while Metacritic gave the film a rating of 20 out of 100 based on reviews by 21 critics.
Review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes report that 11 percent of critics gave it a positive score, based on reviews by 63 critics, with an average score of 3.5 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “It may add 3D to the
original, but Hoodwinked Too! is missing the first installment’s wit and refreshingly low-budget charm.”
Liam Lacey of the Globe and Mail gave the film a rating of one out of four and said, “Full of manic momentum and nattering, witless word play, the movie has all the charm of a mudslide.”
Joe Neumair of the New York Daily News gave it a score of two out of five and said, “By the time a list of "Happy Days" plot lines are recited, it’s clear that even as a hipster goof, "Hoodwinked Too!" is as fresh as a day-old Muffin Man.”
Chicago Sun-Times’ film critic, Nell Minow had a better opinion as she gave it a score of three out of four and declared, “There are some nice 3-D swoops and drops, but the more vertiginous entertainment of the film is in the
script, as what we think we know is deliciously turned inside out.”
Overall, the movie couldn’t even fullfill its budget and is a waste of time.
