Research In Motion (RIM) the BlackBerry making company has rejected Pakistan’s request to provide access to the details of communication between Hussain Haqqani, the former ambassador to the US and the American citizen Mansoor
Ijaz related to the Memogate scandal.
Today, Attorney General Anwar-ul-Haq informed the apex court-appointed judicial commission which is probing into the memo case that RIM, the Canada-based company had refused to provide data of the communication between Haqqani
and Ijaz.
Earlier, RIM had informed the Pakistan government that under its privacy policy, it could not release the data without a formal request made by the customers who were involved in the communication.
Haq said before the court that RIM will not provide access to the information to a third party. Moreover, RIM also informed the government that it did not have some of the data being sought by the commission with it anymore, which
included SMS messages and emails.
The Attorney General also informed the commission that the government officials had remained faield to find Haqqani’s two BlackBerry sets at his former office or home in the US.
Giving his own stance over the issue, Haqqani said that he left his sets in the US while coming to Pakistan.
