Repetition of history on political front: Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Imran Khan
Monday, January 16th, 2012 9:58:10 by Faisal FarooqImran Khan, the cricketing hero of Pakistan, is on the verge to take this country for a ride, likewise the PPP’s founder Zulfiqar Bhutto had done in the past.
Pakistani nation is psychologically charged with emotions, which is a good omen but these feelings could bring fruitful results if dipped with political maturity and sensibility.
Similar to Bhutto, the cricketer-tuner politician is making promises of overnight land reforms, tax collections, economic stability, corruption-free society, and equal-standard education. The question is that how Khan will settle all the things in short span of time that we adopted over 64 years.
I salute the long struggle of Imran Khan, but apparently, his great effort came to an end with the inclusion of big names. Did PTI really hungry for big names? And if it is, then pitiably most of them (big names) are tested faces.
Regardless of that I am keenly looking for a change, a tsunami or revolution that will convert the country from bad to good, at once. I have no other option but keep hoping for a good Pakistan.
One of the many positive things in Khan and his party is that he is untried. All of my fears might become wrong, but as a citizen it is my responsibility to go for truth.
Like Imran Khan, Bhutto too was an honest man and he started his political debut with clean hands. Likewise to Khan, he too represented the youth of that time and promised about change. He was too a very good speaker and intellectual.
He too made big promises with wide and large famous slogan of Roti, Kapra and Makan. However, he failed to deliver what he promised due to his companions of feudal mentality. It was his team more responsible than he himself that deteriorated the situation.
All in all, the masses were left in pitch and all the big promises made for change proved to be void.
The big promises of Imran Khan are one of the major reasons behind his extensive criticism. Everyone knows that Bhutto was hijacked by the landed aristocracy, theocratic mullahs and bureaucracy, which is why he couldn’t deliver.
At the same time, it is very clear that Bhutto took some very bold steps that became reasons of his death.
By getting lessons from past, the captain will have to form a strategy to avoid any such situation that can burn wings before take off. Imran Khan will have to determine his team and policies besides formulating a clear vision for future, if he really wants a change in the country.
