Tribute to an extraordinary Arfa Karim

Monday, January 16th, 2012 12:52:34 by

The tragic demise of Arfa Karim, an extraordinary genius girl and world youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), has triggered an outburst and heartfelt across the country.

Amid a light drizzle, Pakistan buried a God-gifted kid and shine example for the nation’s youth, who will be remembered for ever. She was unconscious and on a life-support system at the Combined Military Hospital, since December 28, 2011.

She lost the battle of life despite best efforts done by the doctors as acknowledged by her father. However, the emotional situation could be different if the high gentry of this country rendered its best-available efforts to her.

Why did not Pakistani politicians, generals and honorable judiciary bother about the younger intellectual, even Bill Gates did so. The death of any youngster is tragic, but losing Arfa Pakistan has lost one of its shining stars.

Arfa, the child prodigy, was declared world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional, only at the age of nine. She was honored with President’s Pride of Performance, Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal for Science and Technology and Slam Pakistan Youth Award.

She, at a time when Pakistan was famous for exporting militancy and terrorism across the world, exposed other facets of the country. She was a fine example that Pakistan can be renowned for all the right reasons, rather than all the wrongdoings.

She proved with her intellectuality that Pakistan can stand tall in the world, earn the admiration of others by their skill and proficiency and have the potential to be the global leaders in their chosen line of work.

There is something so delicate about her life that we taken for granted. One can’t imagine what her friends and admirers around the world are thinking at present. We only offer prays and tributes to her that she is in a better place, one with no more pain and no more insecurity.

According to unconfirmed reports, Bill Gates commented on her death, “Today is the black day of my life and same for Pakistan because I lost my princess colleague and Pakistan lost her Pakistani.”

Today the nation mourns her, and tomorrow it must remember Arfa for what she was, an example of the very best side of the country. She can be described greatly through one of her nineteen poems.

I look to the sky at night and admire the beauty of the stars.
I stand in awe of their brilliance;
They are as shining and constant
and they have been since the beginning of time.

They light the heavens and fill our hearts with wonder.
When one burns out, another takes its place; for they are eternal.
Wherever you are, they guide you from their home high above the earth.
At times, they seem close enough to touch,
as they transport your dreams far away.

Their magic compels us to offer up wishes for their consideration.
They make us realize that even when the sky is the darkest,
a tiny beacon of light still shines through.
They are God’s reminder to us that some things really do go on forever.
