Consumer Electronics Show 2012 boasts tablets from Asus and Toshiba
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 3:47:11 by Usman KhalidThe Consumer Electronic Show 2012 was anything but promoting to the tablet culture. Unlike the 2011 version of the show, that mainly showcased the progressing tablet culture in the world and the US in particular, the 2012 event was stolen by televisions and ultrabooks.
However, there were tablets announced but mostly by companies who are intending to penetrate into the Asia and European markets. On the other hand, Asus and Toshiba came up with their tablets. In the non-Apple world of tablets, Samsung and HTC are ruling the world but the Asus Transformer Prime came with a bang late in 2011 with its quad-core processor.
The thickness and despite all the gismos, the battery timing was a little disappointing to the gaming enthusiasts. However, the company launched a new slate, Memo 370T, that has the same specs but the chassis is even slimmer than its predecessor and its peers.
Asus says that the new device will take up the battery challenge and will easily cross beyond the benchmarked 10 hours set by Apple in iPad 2. Dock compatibility and Bluetooth/WiFi will the standard features of the tablet. The Memo sports a 7-inch screen and is quite comfortable to handle on the go. But the most impressive feature of all was the price. The new tablet competes with Amazon’s Kindle Fire neck-and-neck on the price front. The new tablet is on the forefront to take every market segment into its stride.
With $250 price tag and quad-core Tegra 3 processor, the phone takes a huge leap ahead of its peers in terms of specs and price. Moreover, the Android comes with all its features, unlike the Kindle’s own massively tweaked Android operating system.
Google fully supports the tablet on its application store.
The other tablet that caught the public’s attention was Toshiba’s Excite X10. The slate sports the dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. However, it lags behind the Asus machine on the price front. For the lower specs, the price of the tablet is more than double at $529. It is still higher for any device that does not have Apple logo attached on its back.
