Islamabad: (Wednesday, January 18, 2012) Interior Minister Rehman Malik said today in upper house of the parliament that government will arrest former dictator Pervez Musharraf upon his return to Pakistan after three-years of self
imposed exile.
Malik said, “I assure this house that if he lands in Pakistan, he will be arrested because he is a PO (proclaimed offender). There are three registered cases against him. He has been named in these cases, so ultimately he will
be arrested.”
Earlier, Senator Raza Rabbani had also demanded of Musharraf’s arrest declaring him as a security risk for the country and alleging him of Benazir Bhutto’s murder.
Moreover, chief of Jamahoori Watan Party and grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti had also asked the government to arrest and charge Musharraf if he lands in Pakistan.
Musharraf, in a telephonic rally in Karachi, had promised the members of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) – the political party he heads, to arrive and join him between January 27 to 30 and to contest general elections this year.
Musharraf, expressing his resolve to come to Pakistan, had said, “I will land in Karachi despite all sort of dangers to my life. I can sacrifice my life if need be for the people of Pakistan.”
The former president and military ruler have fewer supporters in Pakistan who actually want his arrival to the country, and amidst the hate common citizen have against him, it is believed that even army might remain failed to provide
him foolproof security.
Talking of the APML chief’s return to Pakistan, one of the central leaders of his party, Mohammad Ali Saif told the reporters, “We are not afraid of arrests. We are in consultation with party leaders in this regard and Pervez Musharraf
will take the final decision.”
However, Manzoor Wassan, the provincial home minister Sindh replied to Saif’s statement by saying, “We’ll go by the order of the court. We have made arrangements for him in prison.”
