Android brand has led to remarkable success last year but has also brought problems: Apple disputes the claim for infringement of several of its patents.
Intel had earlier reiterated their desire to do some innovative work in the mobile phones field. They announced that their chips will grow in this sector and now, Samsung, one of the major mobile phone manufacturers, has agreed
to merge their Bada operating system with Intel’s Tizen.
Samsung may launch this year two or three phone models equipped with Tizen.
“We have an effort that will merge Bada and Tizen. Samsung will probably confirm the status (of the merger) officially when a product is ready, not prematurely.
Tizen will not become Samsung’s main operating platform anytime soon.” Samsung senior vice-president, Tae-Jin Kang, was quoted as saying
On another official occasion, Samsung representative said: “We are carefully looking at it as an option to make the platforms serve better for customers
Tizen is a project of open source operating system, earlier known as Meego, which supports the multiple device categories like Smartphone, Smart TV’s, notebooks and tablets. However, the main operating system used by the manufacturers,
will monopolize against the likes of Android, Google, and Windows.
Bada was introduced three years ago and is not intended for high-end phones. It has been well received in Asian markets and developing countries. It has a market share of 2%. It has its own application store with a nice interface,
allowing multitasking.
Applications developed with Bada will be compatible with the new operating system. The Samsung phones, currently equipped with Bada, could then be updated with the new Tizen.
