Islamabad: (Wednesday, January 18, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan here today rejected National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeal against Sharif Brothers and ordered it to release all their assets.
Headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, the three-member bench conducted hearing of the case and told the NAB that it could not confiscate their property against the punishment. The court maintained
that Nawaz Sharif’s punishment was over, and thus, NAB stood no right to seize their property.
Building on NAB’s allegations, its Prosecutor General KK Agha appeared before the apex court and showed the agreement signed between Nawaz Sharif and the government.
Last year, appearing before the Supreme Court, NAB had challenged the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict on October 4, 2011 into the case, and appealed the apex court to grant it the right to hold Sharif brothers’ assets until the
cases against them were resolved.
Responding to the plea, Chief Justice said that Accountability Bureau had no right to hold the property until reference could be presented against Sharif brothers.
